capricious moods

In the deep graying
before night moves
wholly into day
capricious moods develop
to string-along
the daylight, mock it
with humorless viewing
until dark blots out
light again, returns
to ancient myths and
misanthropic demons.

There —
some certain presence
takes hold, an apparition
in glowering eyes.
